305 Preset Styles

PSRS900 keyboardThe PSR-S900 includes 305 styles in 11 style categories. The S700 has 201 styles including two that are not in the 900. These are mostly Pro styles (.prs) although there are a couple of dozen Session styles (.sst). All styles have four main variations with three alternative intros and endings. The table below shows the styles in the S900. Those marked with an asterisk (*) are not available as preset styles in the S700.

Styles for the PSR-S900/S700

Yamaha provided a utility, Voice Converter for Tyros2, that can convert T2 styles to a format that can be used on the PSR-S900 and PSR-S700. We applied that utility and converted 3,123 styles that PSR-S900/S700 owners can use to increase their style libraries. The style sets are provided in the zip files shown in the table below.

SuperMegaStyle Collections for the PSR-S900

(May 2010) I have updated the whole set of the 'T2 and CVP409 styles for S900' by replacing some other basic voices to the new voices of the PSR-S900, for example, Trumpet as S.Art! Silver Trumpet. These styles have a lot of S.Articulation and Mega Voices. So I named this collection as SuperMegaStyle Collections For PSR S900

Hammer's Gig Disks for S900

(Jul 2010) Many thanks to Patrick, who has converted Hammer's S910 Gig Disks for use on the S900. These should also work on many other earlier keyboards although you may have to adjust the OTS.

YEP Styles in SFF1 Format

(Aug 2015) These are SFF-1 conversions of the S950 YEP files that DrakeM extracted and converted to standard SFF-2 User Style Format: Best of Europe, Celtic / Northern Europe, Church and Christmas, Mariachi / Norteno, and Mexican Banda.

For the most part, these files should work on the PSR: 1000/2000; 1100/2100; 1500/3000; S700/S900 and the Tyros and Tyros2. The SFF-1 conversions were done on a PSR-3000. Re-voicing was applied only to the OTS voices, where necessary. No re-voicing was done to the accompaniment voices, but some additional re-voicing, to either the OTS or accompaniment voices, may be necessary on keyboards other than the PSR-3000. If you come across the occasional style part that produces dissonant sound, I assume that this is due to style CASM damage during the conversion process, and for which, I currently have no solution.

While almost all of Drake's S950 styles were able to survive the SFF-1 conversion, sadly, none of the T5 "Country Musician" styles survived. All of those conversions produced nothing but dissonance. I do not know if this is due to CASM damage from the conversion, or if the T5 CASM's are just not compatible with the older boards. Consequently, I did not post any of those conversions here.

Three of the following files with "V2" (for Version 2) in their file names are re-issues to correct OTS voicing errors. If you had downloaded the original versions, you may want to discard those and download the new V2 versions.

Regards,
Ted

PSR-S900/S700/OR700 Demos

Yamaha Now Offers a Complete Line of Arranger Workstations

(27 July 2007) BUENA PARK, Calif. — With the introduction of three new Arranger Workstations at Summer NAMM 2007, the PSR-S900, the PSR-S700 and the PSR-OR700, Yamaha now offers a complete line of powerful keyboards for beginners and professionals alike.

PSR-S900The PSR-S900 offers a big bang for the buck and adapts several features previously found only on the Tyros2, Yamaha's flagship Arranger Workstation. In addition to modeled organ voices, a LAN Port and a USB for peripheral devices, the PSR-S900 includes Super Articulation for sonically realistic instrument sounds, USB audio recorder, video out, USB storage, 891 instrument Voices and a microphone input with automatic three-part vocal harmony. It also features 128 notes of polyphony, a color LCD screen and a broadband connection that lets users link the keyboard directly to the Internet, where they can download content.

"The PSR-S900 offers the most value for the dollar of any Arranger Workstation keyboard we make, with features previously reserved for the top model, like Super Articulation and Audio Recording," said Mark Anderson, marketing manager, Portable Keyboards, Pro Audio & Combo Division, Yamaha Corporation of America. "Add this to the range of professional features and I know that this keyboard is going to make a lot of customers very happy."

PSR-S700The PSR-S700 features incredibly realistic MegaVoice Technology, XG/GS/General MIDI and General MIDI 2 compatibility, 96-note polyphony, USB storage options for peripheral devices like thumb or floppy disc drives, Modeled Organ Flutes with nine virtual drawbars and a new LAN Port for downloading content directly from the Internet. Though packed with professional features, including 813 instrument voices and 16 drum kits, the PSR-S700 also includes enhancements that beginners can appreciate, including Performance Assistant, which ensures that every rendition is free from mistakes.

"With the release of the PSR-S700, the incredibly lifelike Yamaha MegaVoice Technology represents a huge step up in sound quality for this affordable level of Arranger Workstation, opening the door to a larger segment of the population," said Anderson. "This keyboard has the processing power to be the first in the line to offer 96 notes of polyphony and Modeling Technology for accurately reproducing amazingly realistic organ voices."

The entire Arranger Workstation line includes the Tyros2, the PSR-S900, the PSR-S700, the PSR-OR700 and the PSR-S500. The PSR-OR700, which provides the ability to play scales that differ from the Western system of music notation, is the subject of a separate release issued during Summer NAMM 2007.
