You don't actually get many options about what it can control.

Select Voice Set, then the controller page.

It can be used to set the filter, the overall volume, and the vibrato / wah / tremolo depth.

I’m ashamed to say that in three and a half years ownership of my S970, I’ve never even touched the Modulation Wheel.

Me too, hardly touch it. I only use it once in a while for the old-fashioned Hawaiian guitar or a country slider.

Hello, Try the Mod wheel, especially with the organ voices and guitars, you may be surprised. The Pitch bend wheel needs some adjusting. In the Mixing console I set the pitch bend to 12. This gives a good ending to the aloha guitar when playing Hawaiian songs. Regards,Den.

And try this:

Select a bright trumpet voice. Using the default assignments, turn Live Control 1 to around 9 o'clock and Live Control 2 to around 3 o'clock. With a little adjustment either way, you'll end up with a muted trumpet that's better than the preset voice. (You can create muted trombone, flugelhorn, cornet etc too).

Now waggle the Mod Wheel and listen to it act as a plunge mute, giving a wha-wha effect.

Very handy!
It's not what you play, it's not how you play. It's the fact that you're playing that counts.

I would be crippled without pb and mod!  :)
However, these days the SA sounds do much of the work for you.  I just prefer to do it myself.
