Hello from Texas, USA

Thanks for including me in the group.

I'm an old retiree (79) who recently decided to take up the Keyboard. As far as prior musical abilities/training...I have very little. I spent 6 months in my High School band attempting to play the clarinet. That was it!

I did take a short adult piano course about 45 years ago...but...guess what...I've forgotten much of what I learned there. Ha ha

6 months ago I bought a PSR363/YPT150. I hired an instructor for a few months. She was very helpful in getting me started, but she didn't know much about making my YPT150 work.  She was primarily a piano teacher, though she did say she owned a Yamaha keyboard.  It must have been a higher-end model as my rudimentary setup puzzled her. I know that I have a low-end machine and I am OK with that for now.

I can read music and, albeit, with some issues with arthritis, I can play the right-hand notes of simple music easily enough. The left-hand one-finger chords are coming on fine, though co-ordinating my timing could be better.

I am hoping to learn as much as I can about the mechanics of finding Styles and accompaniments that fit; downloading more Styles if that is the solution, and enjoying playing.

Presently, I can muddle through a half-dozen songs. I know all of them could be improved if I knew better how to control, amend and add in the various Styles and accompaniment(s) available to me.

I am sorry if I will be asking some dumb questions along the way. I will do some searches and read all that I can before I bother any of you.

regards, from Houston, Texas

WOW! I am mightly impressed. 79 and just now starting to learn the keyboard!  Makes me humble to think I'm 75 and still learning to handle my 3000 after years of playing out.  Fact is though its just black notes on paper.  You don't need to know the alphabet past G and in most pop music we don't count past 4 and divide by more then 2,4, and 8.  It is all learn-able.  Just takes practice.  So go for it guy!
