CVP 809 available soon ?
« on: January 18, 2019, 06:12:39 AM »
I wonder if we may expect the new CVP 809 soon ?

Will it have the Genos engine and will all Genos preset styles be available ?

Is there a reason why CVP's never have multipads ?

Thanks !

Hi, my guess is that we will see the CVP 800 series Clavinova’s launched later this year, June/July time and yes I would think it will have the Genos sound engine and styles plus a few new styles. The piano sounds will be from the CLP series maybe updated to include other piano sounds as in the new CP series, probably no multi pads Yamaha doesn’t seem to think it is needed on the CVPs for some reason, but we may be surprised.
All this is pure speculation I have no insider knowledge.

Thanks

I think the piano sounds in the CVP 700 series may already be the same as the CLP. What they don’t have is the CLP hammer action.  I know my 705 does not.
Hard to say why they don’t have multi pads on CVPs. I guess it’s still primarily viewed as a a piano with many, but not all, the features of a TOTL arranger added . Similarly, on the other hand the TOTL arranger does not have all the piano features of a CVP.
It’s interesting that Yamaha do not offer any keyboard instrument which has absolutely every feature available. My guess is that they weigh price and complication against the target market. Most CVP buyers are primarily pianists, and may not rate multipads highly.

IMHO most CVP owners would not be unhappy if Yamaha should decide to add a multipad section.
It might increase their sales volume.

Mikf is dead right! Yamaha never put everything on one instrument.

CVP's don't have multipads. Keyboards never have the highest quality piano sounds that are in the CLP/CVP series. I asked the question st 'Head Office' many years ago and there was a sort of shrug of the shoulders and a 'That's the way it is' look! So a marketing decision, certainly, as there's no technical reason why they couldn't do so if they wished. I assume They won't change their minds on this, simply because they want some space between the CVP and keyboard ranges.
It's not what you play, it's not how you play. It's the fact that you're playing that counts.

I doubt it would. CVP buyers have different priorities. They are primarily buying a piano, and a piece of furniture with accompaniment and some bonus voices. Yamaha even market them through different kind of retailers - CVPs are usually sold in piano specialist stores rather than general music stores. It certainly had no effect on my buying decision, in fact I had the CVP for months before it even dawned on me it had no multipads. But then I never used them on my PSR.

I have a CVP 307 and have owned it for 10 years or more.  I never missed the multipads, I mainly use the CVP as a piano and from time to time I use styles but when you have a Genos no need for multipads on the CVP.
GENOS, SX900, Clavinova CVP 307, Korg Pa4x.........

Hi Stephen :

For those CVP owners who do not have an additional arranger keyboard, a multipad section might be a very nice extra tool ( like choirs e.g. - see Tyros4, 5 and Genos - ), I guess.

Maybe you are right.
CVP players might not be interested in multipads at all.
Apparently they like styles very much though.

But since the CVP has no multipads, probably the player will not miss them, right ?

Many Genos or Tyros owners have never used Multi pads. A lot prefer to multi track there performances
And add counter melodies this way. I personally love creating my own pads from time to time.

Much more important than missing multipads is that the CVP has no pitch bend wheel. That I do miss because many voices such as sax, guitar and trombone need that note slide control to sound authentic. I could workaround with a pedal but it’s an odd omission.

Hello,
regarding the initial question:
My dealer says that it will probably a CVP-800 Series launched late summer this year. It was planned for May but there were some delays.
At the same time there should be also a big Software Update for the Genos.

Regarding missing functions:
In the CVP series I miss the third voice possibility from Tyros or Genos.
And for sure: Incompatibilty regarding Registration settings: I would be glad If I could re-use registrations from Tyros/Genos on the CVP series

Regards Heinz

Hi Heinz,

I do understand what you mean but the CVP serie is intended to be available for home piano players ( 88 keys and real piano keys ) who like also additional features like  styles and voices e.g.

The CVP has no multipads either.

IMHO a piano player is much more interested in very good piano sounds than additional features.
I also believe that styles are pleasant additional pro " toys " for them.

The CVP is a piece of furniture that finds mostly its place in a family living room, I guess.

I am almost sure the new CVP 800 serie will have the Genos engine and Genos styles.

All by all the CVP is a very nice and pro instrument for those
( parents and children ) who want a piano at home with more
possibilities than a standard house piano.

If my personal budget would be high enough, I surely should buy me a Yamaha highend arranger kb and a CVP 809.
I am afraid it is a dream that never will come true.🐷

Babette - I really doubt you would hanker after an arranger if you had a CVP. I didn’t, in fact I gave away my arranger after getting a CVP because although there were a couple of features I missed, it’s no benefit to have them on a different keyboard, because that is not the one I would choose to play. Only reason to have both would be if I needed a portable for gigs.

Hi!
Found this page while searching for CVP-809... https://fccid.io/RR-ymk-CVP-809
Not much information but proves that a new 800-series of CVP is approaching.

Dutch dealers attended a demo of the CVP-80x series last month, so I expect the new CVP-series to be released this autumn.

Two weeks ago I watched a video on YT. It was from a presentation of the CVP 809 for dealers meeting i Ca. USA. Next day it was removed from YT so it was not for general public, obviously!

So the new CVP is around the corner - now we are waiting for the release and official presentation material.

Yes, especially when you consider that the DGX-660 has one.

I saw that video. It was the music from Godfather, and voices I listen (mainly piano and violin) was fantastic, although it was not a high fidelity recording. As said earlier, it was a meeting restricted to distributors or dealers. I'm very curious to see/try this new Clavinova on myself.

Yamaha us posted some demo videos with peter Baartmans of the cvp 800 series
No mention of it on their website, so no specs
From the video it doesnt look like a huge step up

Here is video playlist from Yamaha:

Try to listen carefully these videos through a high quality audio system. My impression is that CFX sound is much more realistic and clear. Isn't it?

The CVP809 looks to be a nice home player instrument.

Do the CVP509 -, 609 - and 709 owners easily upgrade ?

Is there a reason why Yamaha never have built a multipad section in the CVP serie ?

Are CVP players using a pc or an Ipad frequently ?

Same Genos touch screen ?

So, we are in October now, and first pieces of CVP809 maybe could be available in some shop, but not worldwide yet. Anyone just tested in real situation this new piano? No chance here unfortunately, hoping before Christmas but not sure. Any advice is appreciated here. Thanks.

Seems strange the new CVP range were announced on 1st of August like the new PSR SX keyboards but there are no shops here in the UK at least advertising them or offering pre- orders. Maybe there has been some sort of delay in production.

Certainly they are being offered by the big on line sellers in the USA, so they are available. I think it may just take a while for High St stores to invest in the inventory at these prices. And they may want to avoid getting stuck with any unsold 700 series.
To some extent Yamaha are competing with themselves in the CVP range, because I can’t think of a viable competitive model, so there may be no great urgency.

Well, I would never buy any 700 now. Probably they are offered at a lower price, yes, but new model seems more advanced, in particular having Genos sound engine. Hope they will be available before Christmas.

Every new model has some advance, otherwise why would they bother to release it. But experience shows that model to model, they are quite marginal improvements. So unless there is some particular function added that really is important to the player, the previous model is often still a very good buy, especially if there is a big discount.  CVP buyers will typically be less interested in the workstation type features, and put a lot of weight on the piano sound, which is already excellent in the 700 series. I doubt it is all that much better in the 800 series.
Having said that, if the money difference is not too important, then of course it makes sense to go for the latest model.
