You simply start any style playing at the tempo you choose.
Don't stop the style from playing BUT select any other style and it will play at the SAME tempo.

I use this tip all the time when searching for the perfect Drum pattern and bass patterns when creating my custom song styles.

When searching for example a Drum pattern I turn off the other 7 channels in the style. Then I for the Bass pattern I will just select that channel and turn the other 7 off.

I think you have to flip a setting to make it keep the same tempo. It's possibly in different places on different models.

On PSR you choose FUNCTION, MENU 1, STYLE SETTING then change the "Tempo" setting.

Also hit DIRECT ACCESS button then TEMPO,   then tempo hold or set is along the bottom of screen in PSRS900.       Alan

How can I keep the same tempo when changing styles?...

Hi tson,

please refer to S975/775 Reference Manual, pages 27/28 ("Style Playback Related Settings"):

You can press [Direct Access] ---> [Start/Stop] (or one of the [Tempo] -/+ buttons) to call up the "Style Setting" display.

(The "long" way to open this display is [Function] ---> Tab Menu 1 ---> Style Setting (as mentioned before by "DerekA").

Now go to "Style Change Behavior" - "Tempo" and select "HOLD" or "LOCK". (Standard setting is "RESET".)

Abstract from page 28 of S975 Reference Manual:

STYLE CHANGE BEHAVIOR - TEMPO
This determines whether the tempo setting of the Style changes or not
when you change Styles.

LOCK: The previous tempo setting is always maintained.

HOLD: During Style playback, the previous tempo setting is maintained.
When Style playback is stopped, the tempo changes to that of the
default tempo for the selected Style.

RESET: The tempo always changes to that of the default tempo for the
selected Style.

Hope this helps!

Best regards.
Chris

It’s true. Drake’s method doesn’t work with the s970 which is a shame. Of the various ways suggested for calling up the Style Setting display, I think the Direct Access/Tempo button route suggested by Alan is the neatest. But having locked the tempo, you have to remember to Reset it when you’ve finished trying various styles, otherwise the tempo remains locked for the rest of the session.

Remember than pressing tempo + and - together will always reset the current style to its default tempo, no matter what freeze / hold options you have active.

Hi Alan,

I guess that Drake simply uses the setting "HOLD" (at "Style Setting - Style Change Behavior - Tempo").

THIS setting (HOLD) you can also be left for normal playing, because the Tempo is only fixed when a new Style is selected without stopping the accompaniment.

Chris

Chris

I’m embarrassed to admit that I never bothered to explore what the “Hold” setting implied. Thank you for drawing my attention to what will prove to be much more useful than “Lock”.
