Backup - a stupid question (maybe)
« on: November 23, 2018, 05:28:06 PM »
Hi friends

If I want to make a full backup of the harddisk in my Tyros 5 I need to connect my pc to the Tyros via a usb cable, put the Tyros in a special mode by starting it up and holding a few buttons - so it can be seen as a device on the PC - and afterwards copy the harddisk to the PC.

But is the procedure on Genos exactly same, or can I make the copy via the menu on Genos itself?

I am really confused!? :'(

Kind regards

Torben
Tyros 5 was my choice - now it is only Genos1 !

Hi!
Look at p.105 in this manual.  genos_en_om_d0.pdf

Just hold down the Playlist button when you power on the Genos.

That will put it in "usb storage mode", and will look like an external hard drive to your PC.

The great thing about the Genos is that this gives you access to the User drive, which we never had on the Tyros.

Cheers,
Fred

Hi Pierre

That is exactly what I have done ...

And look at the answer from our expert Fred. I suspected an answer like that. Completely opposite the manual ...

Kind regards

What is to correct. Page 105 refers to Back Up restore method which is done on the keyboard user section.
You may find that what you want to back up is to large for this procedure In that case you would use the method Fred has described.
If like me and many others you have a USB fitted to the underside USB port I save everything to this as well as the on board user. I then have a full back up which I can remove from time to time and back up to my computer.
You have a choice as to how you do it.

So Eileen, I recently performed a backup through the Genos menu. The backup was sent to the top surface USB port and then transferred to my PC. The file is a .bup file.

Does my method give me a complete mirror backup of my Genos? I think I got it right. I bring the backups to all my gigs now. I've never had to do a restore. How long does that take? On my original Motif EX, it was a long time. Can't have that in a gig scenario. Thanks.

Yes on Backup restore everything should remain as it was on keyboard.
