Cover of “4th Rendez-Vous” by Jean-Michel Jarre on PSR E463
« on: October 16, 2018, 08:18:04 PM »
Hi to all,

I had the PSR E463 at home for about 10 days before deciding yesterday to returning it. Before that, I recorded the Classic electronic tune “4th Rendez-Vous” by the French composer Jean-Michel Jarre and uploaded it to SoundCloud. I posted the link in the Songs performed by forum members section, but I post it here again for the benefit of those who want to hear how the PSR E463 sounds:

https://soundcloud.com/vbdx66/4th-rendez-vous-psr-e463-cover

I am not happy altogether with that track, notably because the tempo is too slow, but well...

Unfortunately my computer doesn’t boot up, when that’ll be settled I will post a (short) cover of the Jazz standard Autumn Leaves, also recorded on the E463.

Enjoy, all comments more than welcome  ;)

Regards,

Vinciane

Yes, as I said in the other thread, it sounded like you kept wanting to get a little bit ahead of the accompaniment.

Well as I said this track probably needed a bit more practise before recording but I had to return the keyboard.  :o

Hello Vincaine!
Your rendition was splendid. But the style was not as bright as I would wish it to be. I think this is heading towards you getting hold of an S model keyboard :) Yes, I know, they are heavy, expensive beasts, but think of all the styles and voices you can add! But, you are a great musician, and can get good music out of all models! Are you still in search of a keyboard, or have you found it? I follow this with interest!

Hi Toril and thanks for your support  :)

Unfortunately I cannot afford a PSR S for the time being. I hope that Yamaha will launch the S675 next year and that its sounds and styles will be revamped.

As for my cover of 4th Rendez-Vous, it is true that the style doesn’t sound as bright as it should, it might come from adding too much effect with the Live Knobs in the backing track.

I might go back to the Casio CT-X3000 or maybe try the lower model the CT-X700/800 until the PSR S675 comes out. It supposedly uses a subset of the excellent sound and style set of the CT-X3000 but with less editing features and thus a much less intricate user interface (imagine somewhat such as the PSR S775 with the fewer buttons and the small screen of the PSR E363  :-[ )

Any news of your PSR S970 in the meantime?

Best Regards,

Vincinae

Hi to all,

Eventually and just for the fun of it I made a YouTube video of 4th Rendez-Vous since publishing videos seems to be so trendy even these days:

https://youtu.be/cf4gH3nOnGo

And for those who are interested, here is the original video with the Master M. Jean-Michel Jarre himself :

https://youtu.be/vCLEZM_N0K8

You will notice that the original contains contrapuntal subtleties which are hard to reproduce on a keyboard.

Lastly, I am attaching a photograph of Jarre’s studio at the time he composed his album Equinoxe (I imagine the setting was pretty similar at the time he recorded Rendez-Vous).

Enjoy  8)

Hi Vinciane --

When I first saw the photo, I thought that it was a picture of your studio.  :)  :)

Thanks!

Hello Vinciane, why have you returned the PSR-E463 ? Have you tried the Korg PA 300 ?

Hi Philippe,

After having played the CT-X3000for two weeks, of which I really liked the sounds and styles (“rhythms” in Casio language), I found that the sounds and styles of the PSR E463 were not on par.

Unfortunately I haven’t had the opportunity to try the PA300.

I really hope that the PSR S675 will come out in the near future, or that Casio will release a keyboard with the AiX excellent chip and a more friendly user interface, maybe next year.

In the meantime, I haven’t decided yet what I’ll do. I might buy a CT-X3000 or PSR E463 again if I don’t find something more suitable.

By the way, after a few months, what do you think of the PSR S670? Do you like it better than the PSR E453?

Vinciane.

Yes the PSR-S670 is a wonderfull and very complete keyboard, you can do a lot with it, but I have not enought time to play regularly, too bad...
Sometimes, I miss the PSR-E453 because its simplicity and limits have some magical charm...

The Casio MZ-X300 is a king of CT-X3000/5000 with a better user interface. It's only 300€ on Music Store Professional.

Hi Philippe,

This is a shame that you don’t have the time to play as often as you would like on your PSR S670. If one day you want to sell it please contact me LoL.

We discussed about the MZ-X300 already. I remember you said the keybed was clumsy and besides, I really like the freshness of the sounds and styles of the CT-X series better than those of the MZ-X series, which I also find very bulky. And besides, Casio has decided not to support this line of keyboards any more, which means there will be no successor to the MZ-X 300 and 500 unfortunately.

I completely agree with you, the PSR E453/463 have some charm of their own but after having played the CT-X3000 for two weeks I found that the PSR E3xx/4xx sounds were kind of dated. So I still haven’t decided which keyboard I am going to buy and in the meantime I still have my DGX650.

Vinciane
