Just want to log some of my S975 experience and ask for input from other owners.

My previous keyboard was an S910. Once I got a nice EQ and gain setup, it was basically a "one size fits all" with the varied venues I played. My only adjustments were to my CPS Spacestation V.3 speaker/amp system.

The S975 has a more complex EQ (8-band vs the older 5-band). I did a lot of hand wringing and finally arrived at EQ and Compressor settings I liked, and which were a hit at a large venue I played.  THEN I REALIZED at subsequent gigs that those settings were NOT "one size fits all," not even close. My following gigs were in varying room sizes and shapes, and I kept adjusting style volumes etc. on the fly trying to get a pleasant balance, but got poor results.

Yesterday I played a smaller venue in a "live" room and decided to set EQ at the STANDARD preset and the Compressor also at the STANDARD preset with GAIN at "0". I dreaded doing so because those settings seemed such a "come down" when at home. HOWEVER, the result was soft, intimate, and tone rich. Don't know how much of that was my speaker system, but for sure the tones coming through the 8-band EQ were considerably beyond what I ever heard from my S910 playing through the same speaker system.

I now realize I will need to learn to match my settings to the venues.

I'm sure other S975 gig players use a variety of external sound systems. I am curious to learn their before/after-S975 comparisons.

Thanks, John. So many players lover their Bose L1 Compact units. I'm committed (stuck) with where I've already put my money--and it's working out OK.

Finished up the 7-weeks of radiation at the end of March. Never experienced any of the list of potential side effects...but lost about 10 pounds. Doctor thinks the treatments were successful.

All the best!

Thank you, Gary.

Since this has been brought up, I'll just fill in the rest of the story.

In Feb of 2017 my cancerous prostate was removed (robotically) and I experienced the best of recoveries (even though I was 71) and had great followups. Then it became evident that some cancer had escaped prior to surgery, so the radiation (1 yr later) was an attempt to clean up the area.

Men, get checked when your doctor advises; prostate cancer is a stealth enemy.

(Getting off my soapbox now.)

Hello Royce,,
Have 2 contributions,, one on topic and the other not.

1.  On the s975 i took Telmo;s  eq settings, which have made a difference.   However, the machine is hooked up to the logitech
speakers that i had used for the tyros and have to put the eq setting back to the "speaker"' setting.   Also, when i took my
s970 out and hooked up speakers, it was best to go back to speaker setting.   Otherwise sound got messy and distorted.
Am still dealing with the low volume output on the s975 compared to the s970 and find some of the PLUS styles unbalanced
between style and voice volumes.   Try to avoid upping gains as sometimes produce distortions as well.
The Tyros 5 had a master volume control which goes up to 127.. Can't find it on the s975
2.   Off topic re: radiation therapy and early detection for any threatening illness.. Yes, stay on the soapbox and make regular
checkups, blood, etc.   Usually tests are cautionary and if there are questions, hints, one gets monitored.   Am currently
being monitored for CLL (chronic lymphoid leukimia)  which either can up or down or stay the same for the next several
decades.   All because my blood tests showed a change and my doctor was quick to send me for further tests.
As for radiation therapy , my husband had 6 weeks, (colerectal)  early detection , was clean last year and still is taking
MRI's (protocol here in israel for 5 years) .   At a certain age, even if difficult, cautionary exams are a must.
How can we enjoy our music and machines if we don't....
Thanks for being a wonderful soapboxer.   no gloves..... wish you continued success.

cheers

Have to put the eq setting back to the "speaker"' setting.

Hi Elaine,

1. I appreciate reading your experiences. I'm not sure I understand your reference to "speaker setting." Is that the original out-of-the-box settings used for the built-in speakers?

2. I hope health issues continue to go well for you and your husband.

The past week has been a bit difficult for me as well when it comes to health issues. A week ago I awoke with a horrendous pain in my left knee. If it were not for the chair next to the bed, I would have fallen flat on my face when I got out of bed. After two days of horrendous pain, I went to the local Doc In A Box and discovered I had gout of the knee. 3 pills later I fit as a fiddle, or at least until today.

Today I visited the dermatologist office and met with a beautiful young gal who was a CRNP, very, very knowledgeable and after looking me over she announced that I have squamous cell carcinoma of the lower lip, which will require a biopsy, followed by surgery if the biopsy comes out positive. I'm not looking forward to this. This will have to be done under local anesthesia, which is not at all fun, because my lungs are so bad that I would not survive general anesthesia, which I prefer. Gonna have a serious talk with them in about 2 weeks.

She also said I have a couple per-cancerous lesions on my face and ears, which will require treatment with a nasty salve that burns like **** and messes up your face for a few weeks. Then you are permitted to heal naturally, but I will not be any prettier. ;)

Another fun day in Paradise,

Hi Royce,

Just checked eq settings options,,, there is a setting called "with subwoofer"....   sorry to have named that setting "speaker"
Perhaps a senior moment.     Since am using a subwoofer set up want to try that setting later on today,,, too early to play.

Thanks for well wishes.

Hi Gary,

Sorry to hear about your health challenges and just want to share experience with the lower lip cancerous legion.
When i was in my early 30's developed a brown spot on lower lip, which had to be removed as diagnosed as
pre cancerous lesion.   I had local anesthetic,, and part of lip removed along with spot.  Had to have stitches down the
middle,, Just really wierd to have stitches down lower lip like a boxer.   Cannot see them now and there is zero deformity.
It is good to be checked routinely by a skin doctor.  You are exposed alot due to your sailing passion and may not be using
proper suncreens.   The sun does crazy things,,, stay out... .

Hope these issues are resolved soon.   You will still be very pretty.

all the best
cheers

Gary,

Hearing your descriptions gave me flash backs of the two times I was given the report that I had cancer and realized that uncertain times lay ahead.

Friend, you are already in my prayers.

For years I used to get basal cell carcinomas that would break out usually on my face and the top of my head. Each one needed some minor surgery to remove. Then I saw a specialist who told me that I had little bumps on my forehead that might at any time start growing into more of the perishers. He prescribed a tube of that skin burning ointment, which did hurt a bit and made my forehead look as if I’d overdone the tanning treatment. But I have to say it worked brilliantly. When my face had restored to its normal ugly self he pronounced it smooth as a baby’s bottom - the little bumps had disappeared and, touch wood, they have not returned.
