Upgrade from S670 to S970 or S770?
« on: April 08, 2018, 07:12:20 AM »
Hi to all dear friends with the same passion of music... i just wanted to know your opinion of buying a new keyboard. I have s670 on hand but im interested with s970 but is it cool to just buy the s770 as i notice lot of similarities between the two and s770 is much cheaper than s970.

Welcome to the forums!

I just wanted to let you know that I split your post from the topic where you had posted it (extracting WAV files from PPI) so it will have its own topic that reflects your question, because I was afraid that it wouldn't be seen and replied to by as many people if they thought it was about that other topic.

As for your question, I'm not up on all of the differences between therm, but I think the S770 is pretty close in specs to the S970, so it should be a good alternative to the more expensive S970 if you can't afford the S970. But if you can afford the S970 then it would probably be the better keyboard to buy.

I am going to suggest another route which you might consider. I sold my PSR S950 and bought a use Tyros 5. The 950 went to a band performer whose PSR2000 died. The Tyros 5 came in as a trade in on a Genos. My experience is that the dealers simply want to get rid of the trade-ins so I got the trade-in price of $2450(CAN) =$1920(US). The T5 was never gigged and came with the TRS-MS05 speakers. If weight is not an issue and sound is important then you can't beat a Tyros (or Genos).

The S970 has more Voices, more styles, a VH2/Vocoder, and a VGA port on the back to connect a monitor and a lot more expansion memory.

I don't think you can find a new s950.
Probably you have watced a used one.
The s770 also will not be availiable for much if you can find a new one.

Take a  look at this post between the differences of s770 and s970.

The 950 uses the old format for expansion packs, has less memory and is limited to a single pack at a time.  The S770 uses the new format and uses the YEM software... has more memory so you can install at least 2 or 3 packs at a time.  The 770 also has a better screen display.

If you don't want vocal harmony, go for the S770 over the S950. The S770 has pretty much all the voices of the S950, plus the advantage of live control and YEM expansion.
