Altering voice on Genos
« on: January 15, 2019, 11:52:05 AM »
Hi
I am trying to alter the "breathy tenor sax" to make it breath more. In certain tunes it makes a very good effect. Can anyone tell me how I can get this effect.

Try adjusting the EQ and also raise the offset a little. This may help you.

There is no setting on the genos that adress the breathy..
But you could try edditing it in Yem
Could be that the growl is a sepeperate element in yem
But i am not a specialist in yem (yet)

Other options that could give the desired effect is toying around with attack of the envelope, filter settings and dsp.. just play around with those and see if you can get something you like..

On T5 i did that in YEM and saxophone has separated breath tone so you can adjust it with Genos too to be more breathy sound alike with no problem  ;)

Hi Kurt,
You do not specify but I believe you may be referring to the SA2 Breathy Sax and I am not aware of how to edit that type of Voice in YEM.

You can use a DSP effect to enhance the breath sound and one of the best is in Distortion, Multi FX Oldies Delay, since the preset settings give a reasonable amount of enhancement while retaining a good sax sound (better than the default sax IMO). If you want a bit more try raising the Comp sustain from its default of 4, (there is a limit where it becomes too intrusive) and set Output to maximum.
Also fine tune the effect by tweaking EQ in Voice editor. For example at a quick look I used 3.6kHz Hi, gain 12, and 355hz Lo, gain 4 in combination with the preset Dsp.
