Differences between Tyros 5 and PSR S970
« on: February 20, 2018, 10:10:00 PM »
To owners with both Tyros 5 and PSR 970 or those who know the differences  :) :)

Hi friends ,

If I compare the specifications of my Tyros 5 and a PSR S970 , can I do the same
Things with the 970 which I can do with my Tyros  1:1 compatible ??
Or which features from the my Tyros, will I miss on a PSR 970 ???

I know the storage, capacity  is different and less styles and voices but that is no
problem.

Thank you for your opinion

Cheers
Udo

Udo,

The specs only tell part of the story. I think it is best that you locate an S970 and play it for yourself.  The keybed is not as good, no SA2.  The sound is less than the Tyros but very good. Fewer outputs and Pedal jacks. And there are some small differences in the Operating System and features which are listed in the document you posted.  On the plus side it is small and lighter and has built-in expansion memory.

Thanks Joe,

I have a T5-76 for here at home and I still have my first T3 .

I would like a keybord lighter and smaller than the T5-76 and I am thinking what is
better, to use the T3 or get a new PSR 970 for 1400
The T3 does certainly not have all the features of my T5 ..... ::)

And so on ....that was the reason why I asked

Have you thought about Genos. It is Smaller than the Tyros 76 note and is slightly lighter. Beautiful to play.

Thank you for your answer Eileen ,

but I really would like to keep my T5 and for a couple of weeks per year that I would
use the lighter / smaller one I do not want to spend that money :)

I might even have a dicussion with my Jill  :) :)

Udo,

You might want to reconsider.

I'lll bet you can upgrade your T5 to a Genos for less than the price of a new 970. With only one instrument, you would avoid the hassles of trying to maintain two systems, which are not inconsiderable in my experience. You can get pretty frustrated tyring to maintain songs for both keyboards which have differing features.

The weight of a Genos is less than a T5-61, and much less than a T5-76. It was one of the major reasons I upgraded my T4. Moving around a Genos is so much easier than a Tyros. A Genos weighs 28.5 lbs vs the 970 at 25.5.

Hope this helps,
Fred

Hi Fred and thank you for your answer,

Yes , you are right !! and I understand your logical point !
The problem is, the Genos and me will not become friends, not at this stage.

Therefore I am looking for that 970 which is from the handling point of view as close
as possible to the T5.

As we say here : you cannot jump over your own shadow.  ;) ;)

Hello

Do you know what components make Tyros sound Better ?
Does it come from internal samples ? DAC ? audio output ?

I am curious about it even if it doesn't really matter while playing

Udo, I’ve owned both the S970 and the T5 and in my opinion the S970 just didn’t come up to scratch once you have been used to the build quality and key bed of a Tyros. Two things I really missed when using the S970 was the programmable slider and after touch effect (esp. on guitars). S970 is good value for the money but I suppose it’s a case of you get what you are prepared to pay for.

Hi Ronnie,

Thank you very much for your opinion. :) :) :)
The price for the 970 is now over here less than 1300,- EURO.

Anyway I would use it only when I am not at home and I think until
Yamaha will come up with something really new I will use my T3-61
and at home the T5-76

For myself I have a strategy : If I am not sure what to do, I do nothing  ;D ;D

Have a nice Sunday

Udo,

If the price is falling on the S970, people who are thinking of upgrading to the S975 should be aware of what a used S970 will sell for.  They will take a big loss.  Also "if in doubt... take no action" is a good policy to practice.
