Jørgen:
Hi

Check PJ's articles on voice editing at http://sandsoftwaresound.net/

Great stuff...  :) Thanks Paul...

Really great. Thank you Jørgen and pj.

A note to pj:

As an alternative for XML notepad (which I did not know, shame), you can also mention notepad++, which gives also a very comfortable way to edit xml files in a structured way, but using text view instead of table view.

Hi Paul,
Have just read your treatise on voice creation from presets,
In the past I made many such voices on Tyros's 1 to 4 when we were able to set velocity and note ranges simply, alter the degree of bend depending on playing strength and a few other extras. Then when YEM evolved some of these features sadly disappeared. So it's good to have the UVF files and what you can do with them explained in so much detail.
Many Thanks to you, and to Jorgen for drawing attention to it (in fact there is more than 1 article on the subject at your link but I don't know what a cool plural of "treatise" would be!)  :)

This is really interesting. I didn't know you could use YEM to construct such complex splits/layers from the panel voices.

It's a pity it only works for Tyros / Genos - perhaps the firmware upgrade fairy will enable it on the S770/S970 one day.

Hi folks --

Spent yesterday OD'ing on cross-country skiing and biathlon. Those Norwegians are cyborgs on skis. :)

Thanks, Thanks!

I'm not quite done, having one more experiment to try and write up. Thanks for posting the initial link, Jørgen. I'll post all links when everything is done.

Thanks for your suggestion, Uli. I added a short section on other tools at the end of the 2nd post. People can use Chrome or Firefox to browse (but not edit) UVF, too.

Once everything is finished, I want to draw Yamaha's attention to the shortcomings in YEM that must be fixed. I don't think anyone from the YEM or Genos development team have actually tried this scenario for splits and layers. It seems like an obvious use case.

Take care -- pj

P.S. I've got a quick Java hack for reading UVF to share, too.
