usb 3.0 transfers data 10 times(10x) faster than usb 2.0
You better use a usb that Yamaha suggests for your instrument in any case.

Unfortunately, no. While the Genos will support a USB 3 flash drive (because they are backward-compatible), the Genos still only has USB 2 drives. Most of the time that's not a problem as the file quantities and sizes we need to move to and from the keyboard are small. But when you try and do a USB-based pack install and its over a GB, you'll notice that it takes a while. In their defense, most of the slowness is probably due to the Genos memory write speed.

The Genos has a USB 2.0 interface but a compatible USB 3.0 thumb drive will work on the Genos although with a maximum transfer rate of up to 480 Mbps (Megabits) which is equal to 60 MB/s (Megabytes) per second. To take better advantage of the Genos USB 2.0 interface you can use a faster rated thumb drive. For instance, I use a SanDisk Extreme USB 3.0 thumb drive to transfer files to and from the Genos. Many thumb drives might have a transfer rate of up to 60 MB/s (the throughput limit of USB 2.0) but real world experience is perhaps much slower in many cases. The SanDisk Extreme on the other hand is rated at 95 MB/s and it consistently achieves those numbers and thereby is able to take full advantage of the USB 2.0 standard of up to 60 MB/s. So my recommendation is to use a fast thumb drive in order to help speed up the process of transferring files to and from the Genos.
