Are you using an MFC10 pedal with Genos or Tyros?
« on: January 11, 2018, 02:52:05 AM »
I have an opportunity to get an MFC10 pedal.  I’ve worked with just a sustain pedal and based on my playing style it has always done the job for me.  I also have no problem reaching  for buttons and wondering whether the MFC10 is worth buying?   How about you, how effective is it for your use?

Hi Steve,

If you do not have problem reaching for buttons / registrations, you can skip MFC10 totally.

I always prefer playing arranger with foot controllers to lessen the burden on my hands, such as Roland FC-7 for Roland arrangers, Korg EC5 for Korg arrangers, Ketron FS13 for Ketron arrangers, and Yamaha MFC10 for Yamaha arrangers.

Using a properly configured MFC10 frees up our hands to play with more sophistication or less stress, with less brief interruption in some cases.  The volume pedal of MFC10 is especially useful after it is programmed to be the master volume of Genos, giving you manual controlled fade in / fade out, totally replacing the Yamaha FC7 expression pedal.  The disadvantage is obviously one additional piece of hardware to your setup.

I combined all my posts about setting up MFC10 for Genos in answering Vali's MFC10 questions:

Since Intro 1, Intro 2, Intro 3, and Sync Start etc. buttons can be press ahead of time, they are not needed on the MFC10, only the other more frequently accessed controls are programmed on the MFC10:

Button 1:    Start
Button 2:    Stop
Button 3:    Main A
Button 4:    Main B
Button 5:    Main C
Button 6:    Main D
Button 7:    Break
Button 8:    Ending 1
Button 9:    Ending 2
Button 10:  Ending 3

Thanks,
Paul

Paul,

Thanks for the insight about the MFC10, based on your comments I think I can skip getting an MFC10. ;)

I got a Behringer FCB1010, which I think is the better foot pedal. I got for 97€ new at amazon, (instead of 300€ for MFC10), and it has 10 switches and 2 (!) expression pedals, that work exactly as the MFC10.

How about setting it up, was it difficult or is it a pretty straight forward set up?

It is relatively simple:

* Set the switches to send notes starting from note number 13
* Set the expression pedals to control change 1 and control change 2.
* Activate external midi control in Genos settings, and all works perfect.

I always switch variations and fills using the foot pedal.

And I set left expression pedal for style volume, and right expression pedal for keyboard volume in Genos settings. That's a helpful setting.

The Yamaha MFC10 works exactly in the same way. It only costs 3 times the price, has external power supply, and only one expression pedal.

I’ve used the MFC-10 on the Tyrps 4 and 5, and now on the Genos.

Once you have one, you’ll wonder how you did without it.
