My 10 minutes with Genos
« on: December 15, 2017, 08:40:34 PM »
Hello :) I was at the music store today, - and there it stood in all its majestic black beauty, - the Genos! I had to try it, and wish fervently that I hadn't! It sounds incredibly good!
Why, oh why should I do this! In 10 minutes I noticed some things:
The buttons are good, the keybed feels very good, the screen is big, but not so clear to me, but I managed to use the touch screen with ease, and the layout is intuitive, but too bad that they did away with the possibility to tilt it! To all that have a Genos, congrats on a fabulous instrument! Have fun!
And I got the dreaded Genos fever back.....!!

Toril,

Sorry you did that to yourself. The S970 is such a great keyboard... dig in and get the most out of it. I've had mine for a couple of years and I still just LOVE it!

No. But it costs over the double of the S970.  And to make room for it I would have to get rid of my Yamaha  Piano!

Hi Toril,

I know how you feel.  I own both the Genos and PSR-S970.

I spent most of my play time on Genos because:
1.  Genos sounds much better - longer samples, more DSPs, the new Revo drums . . .
2.  Genos has much more expansion flash storage to allow installation of a lot more voice and style expansion packs, including the available free and paid ones for S970s from Yamaha
3.  The buttons on Genos are much larger, and the most used ones are huge and backlit
4.  The keybed of Genos feels more premium and semi-weighted, not as 'flimsy' as the S970's

I am sure that the next PSR-S models will get some improvements from the Genos.  It makes sense to stick with your S970 for the time being until you cannot resist the urge of upgrade.

Thanks,
Paul

Fortunately, I am immune!
And I think my next kbd will be a Pa4X and not a Genos. Sounds are different but as good as Genos and  overall, the editing of Pa is a real editing and not an ersatz like that of Genos. And for more functions, the Korg is much cheaper.  8)  ;D

Hopefully the S770 and S970 successors will come with Genos2 features ... if not, I really do not know why I should upgrade.

Hello :) I need a portable, not dragable keyboard, so I chose the S970, and is happy with the choice. We'll see what future brings :)

Hello :) I was told that the Genos is 30 kilos! That is a considerable weight for one person to carry. But if you could have it set up stationary at home, all is well :)

I re-arranged my Genos and S970 yesterday in preparation for incoming Yamaha HS8 speakers.

I found that the weight of Genos and S970 very close - it seemed easier to lift the Genos due to its smoother back and bottom than the more sharp-edged S970.  The Genos is about 3 pounds heavier than the S970, almost negligible to me.

Thanks,
Paul

Hi Toril

That certainly would be a considerable weight for one person, fortunately it is not true,as has been pointed out,Genos weighs 13kgs (28lbs 11oz's ) and it is apparent when moving it,lighter than Tyros 5.

I think you are right though, you have just purchased a really nice keyboard, and in your place,it is probably more suitable  as you are a performer at venues, and your 970 is easier for you to transport
