Hi Tommy
Talking about Acoustics now___

I have a brick wall all around me with a window one side which suggested was a blackout curtain for door and window
Opposite my window is the side wall and I am facing front .
So Blackout curtain for wall and door,  side wall opposte an acoustic tile two corner traps and one tile or two in centre on wall between speakers and one on back wall.
That should be somewhere near it being in a non Idylic room although with the carpets the sound does not echo in my roomthat much .
if I do a low shout it does ping in the distance or that how It seems to the lug hole.
Very slight echo if shouting . Hope the men In their clean wite coats don't catch me. ;D

All the best
John

Little kids drawing  of my set up in a little packed room 10 x 10 ft roughly . The speakers are placed better than my drawing. Further apart,Not to scale!!! :) The Genos looks to big compared to the speakers!!! 8)

Hi Tommy
I sent for another XLR to TRS mic lead as the Yamaha guy said all balanced coming out of the Focusrite. No problem
So all I have Is a spare lead with pro audio low noise written on It.
It must be a way of saying mic lead.
Friday, I will set up when the final leads come.
Sunday, I will know What I have got going.
In the meantime I will give my room a good going over tidying things up.
Oh well, crawling up that hill slowly.

All the best

Hi Tommy
I have wrote a email to SOS and mentioned the tea and biscuits.
I can only wait and hope!! ;D
I have never won a prize yet, only a couple of wins on  the fixed odds
They also do a studiobook for £21 with all there visits in It.
Like you say ,you never know!!.
I have got a good idea about what to do now as you have to get the basic part done first which looks ok to do.

Hi Tommy

I am in trouble again

I hooked up the focal alpha speakers to the focusrite 6i6  and i cannot get any sound out of them

I used Daw 3 and Daw 4 on the focus rite and the same in cubase.
I can play back a midi song and the focals come to life when the focusrite volume knob is up.
My keyboard volume is not working and I cannot hear my keyboard even when In cubase.
This different system is bugging me.
How can I play my keyboard outside the daw now??

All the best
John

Hi John as recall with Focusrite and generally with most audio interfaces...there should be a mixer control software which you can use independently of your DAW or with it and this basically setup the 6i6 hardware side of thing's like switching input and output channel on and off... let me check it out and I can be more specific with what you need to do....

Hi Tommy

I have sorted It all out now
For me I have reverted back to what I had.
Now I can Play the Genos when the focusrite Is switched off Like before .
If I want to go to Cubase and and use VST  & Wav files switch on the focusrite.
I can edit Yamaha Genos midi with just the Yamaha driver engaged.
I have sent for another XLR to TRS jack lead for my other DXR speaker
If i use the DXR's without the hum destroyer the buzz will come back ,so the hum destroyer is just for the DXR's . The Focal Alphas are quite as a mouse.
I need another Jack to jack lead as well ,so both are coming tomorrow or Friday and then should be back to normal again.
I can control the Focal Alphas from the Genos volume control, No pilot needed.
All I do now is swap the leads over in the main out for mixing or listening. Not a big deal. Everything else is in place.
The Focal Alphas sound of course flat ,but the detail Is superb. Things like hi hats and clicky sounds come out very clear. I will get the triangle sorted later.
Putting the XLR to jack In the DXR's can be set just right with the gain and not so raw as using unbalance jacks or does not sound in your face as you lift the volume, more gradual.

The Focal Alphas not having a volume knob takes on different characteristics.
Because the volume is In on mode It took ages to get the sound coming through and I was fuming again. :o >:( ;D

So back to the net and find out
It Is to do with their protection circuits. It has to detect sound from the Genos

The lower the volume the longer to get up and running
If you turn the volume on the Genos up to half way and press a few keys,It takes about two/three seconds.
learning all the time :-\ :P ::) ;D.

All the best
John

Ok John there are too many things to check and try here... I think we are getting into the quick sand now ...I think the way I am suggesting to connect your Genos as my sketch is a better and conventional way to do... so I think it's just a case of learning and understanding how to use Focusrite mixer control with you 6i6 interface...John it is becoming increasingly difficult to communicate here so more than happy if you want to PM me and take this over the phone and if needed get some chocolate biscuits in I'm not that far away.... :)

Hi Tommy and all

I have done extensive testing and the Focals sound unbelievable and I have not properly tuned them In yet.
I tried Oxygene 8 by Jarre and my version for a quicky test and Immediately I can tell the hi-hats and the bass need rolling off a bit, but as you say I will give them the 20 hour run in the lower frequency sounds but not too loud as stated

I uninstalled the Focusrite drivers and re- Installed them and all Is ok.
I do think the way I set up Is more direct as It only means that I take two leads from the main output of Genos and stick the others in and switch on. So the recording on computer can be done through the focusrite. Switch leads pull out push In and then direct through the behringer HD to DXR 8's  and NO HUM
As I said the Focals do not need the Behringer HD.
Lots of people have issues with 1st Gen Focusrites and WIN 10., so I will keep It simple as I can.
The only thing I had notice with the Focusrite6i6 Is that If you come out of Cubase and walk off for a cuppa  and go back Into Cubase  an Info box pops up and says that the Focusrite not recognized not switched on.
If I then turn the Focusrite off and on again all Is ok again. It only happens If you walk away for a while or change daws.
I had a similar thing with the Creative EMU 404usb years ago and to me It means that Focusrite really want you to buy the 2nd generation, that is why they have not updated the 1st Generation.
That Is my assumption only.

So all Is well except the occasional glitch with the Focusrite616. They have a beta driver somewhere, but I am not sure who made It. Could be dodgy.
I have seen a few threads on Cakewalk Sonar or now Bandlab forum about that.
I am not doubting what you ve said and advised Tommy and big thanks for all your help here, but this way Is foolproof for me, tried and trusted.
Had a 404 bluescreen tonight. Been eight months since the last. Must have been a russian spy. 8) :o ;D
Put that down to drivers probably clashing. Checked the machine out after reboot and no hardware problems for my year old I7, 6core  32 ram from PC Specialists.
Also Checked system with Norton and Malware Bytes. CLEAR!!
These things sometimes happen zero's and ones argue with each other. Automated report sent to Microsoft. They know everyones moves!!! 8).
I feel bushwacked after a long day crawling about like a child with an electric train set. Lines everywhere.

All the Best
John :) getting happier!!

Hi Torril

It's all a worry  ;D

I Know tommy Is trying his best to help me but I could not get along with the new way.
I want to keep things as simple as possible and operational
The Genos Is a great Instrument and deserves good speakers.
Just trying those Focal Alpha 50s, they are class for the price.
It was just getting over that they do not have a volume knob at the back, but Yamaha said the Genos can control them.
What happens is the speakers are on but muted. When you fire up the Genos you have to turn the volume knob up to roughly half way and touch your keyboard and that un-mutes the speakers. They then come alive. They also have protection. So the lower you have the Genos the longer they take to come alive. Blame the French for that!! :o ;D
I have just put them up as I am waiting for extra leads, but they sound unbelievable to me .I will have to tune them In properly.
I will have to mention to Tommy that I have also put some beta drivers from Focusrite In and no problems at all now .The focusrite 6i6 had driver issues and there were lots of complaints from people about that. No denying apart from that the Focusrite 6i6 and all of their range Is quality.
Hope I have not bored you too much Torril.

All the best
John :)

No, this is fascinating!
I have the Focusrite 2i2, 2 gen.
I keep it very simple, just hook the Focusrite to the keyboard and the computer, and use Audacity to record.

I am happy that you found the perfect speakers!

We always hunt for the perfect sound, that is part of the fun! Good luck!
