Full Genos voice list comparison
« on: November 02, 2017, 12:02:30 PM »
Hi,

I did a comparison of the voice lists of Genos, T5 and S970. These are the results:

* Genos has ALL 1357 voices from T5 plus 354 NEW voices.
* Genos has 972 from the 1034 S970 voices, plus 739 NEW voices.
* Many voices have been replaced by new samples (for example CFX or C7 pianos) on the Genos, keeping the same MSB/LSB/PC number as on T5/S970.
* Revo drum kits have got new MSB/LSB/PC numbers not replacing earlier drum kits.

This means the following:

* ALL Tyros 5 styles and songs will work perfectly on Genos without revoicing, because all T5 voices are present on Genos or are replaced by new better voices.
* Most S970 styles and songs will work perfectly on Genos for the same reason.
* Styles from T5/S970 will not use Revo drums automatically, since these have new PC MSB/LSB/PC numbers. We have to revoice to use them.

There is another consequence:

* All S970 voice and expansion packs, including the free ones (Best of Europe), will work almost perfectly on Genos, because these two keyboards share the same tone generator supporting the new wave format ("LINEAR16_FRAME") that is used in many S970 expansion voices and not supported by Tyros 5.
* When and if Genos uses style and song voices including their DSP settings automatically, legacy styles and songs may sound much better due to extended DSP usage.

So Yamaha did a great job on downward compatibility.

Uli

In this table it looks like the Organ world voices are missing from the Genos
But they are not all 40 of them are present. They are just in another place.

You are right. The voices are all there. Only the category is missing.
