Hey guys, I got my PSR-2100 a few days ago and I love it! I'm still in the process of figuring out how everything works with it, and this site and forum has been a great resource.

Anyway, I'm having trouble figuring out the DSP1 effect. I was under the impression that you could either assign it to a specific part, or have it affect everything being played through the keyboard. When I go to Effects in the Panel Mixing Console and bring up the Type display, I see several parts that DSP1 can be assigned to, like CH1 - 16, RHY, CHD, etc. But is there a way to assign it to something like the Left panel voice, or to have it affect everything played with the keyboard?

There are two types of DSPs on these instruments: 1) System, a common effect that can get input from any of the 16 midi channels based upon the amount selected by the effect slider, and 2) Insertion, an effect which is applied to a single channel only, and in a fixed amount set by the instrument (the slider is inactive)

By default, the song DSP is set to insertion DSP 1, Delay LR, Part=Off. If you want to apply an effect to just one part, then depress Mixing Consol button until you get to Song 1-8 or Song 9-16, tab to Effect, depress the Type screen button, and use the screen buttons at the bottom to select a channel and the effect desired. Since the effect amount is fixed, the sliders remain grayed out. If you want to assign an effect to more that one channel, use the screen buttons to select another DSP and change the part to the new channel

To use a system effect with a midi, in Mixing Console, tab to Effect, depress the Type screen button, and the Parameter screen button. And then you must do something that is not so obvious! Depress the Parameter button (4 or 5 at bottom of screen) until the next to last entry. You will notice that there are several "hidden" parameters, one of which selects whether the effect is System or Insertion. Change the entry to System, depress exit to go back to the Type and select an effect. When you have done this, depress Exit again and you will see that the effect sliders are now active.

Thank you, I never would have thought to look there!

One more thing, I'm assuming that in system mode, it only applies to songs and styles, correct? So is there a way to make it apply to panel voices as well, or do you have to use DSP2 - 4 for that?

The instrument seems to clearly indicate that only DSP2-4 works for the Panel voices, but the block diagram in the manual (of my 2000) shows otherwise. If DSP1 can serve as a system effect for the panel voices, I don't see the mix control.

Yeah, the diagram seems to show it affecting everything, but apparently that's not the case.

Thanks for your help. Smiley

Hi Guys,
I'm sure glad I found this question raised within this forum.
I to have the same question regarding DSP1 - this DSP has more effects than all of the other DSP's (especially in the area of rotary speaker effects), and I would sure like to be able to assign it to the panel voices and especially to the organ flutes voices.  Surely Yamaha wouldn't have added all of those nifty rotary speaker effects like 2Way Rotary and Rotary + Distortion to the DSP1 effects list and not given you a way to actually assign them to an organ voice!  Has anyone unraveled this mystery?  Any information would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance.
