PSR-S950

« on: January 23, 2014, 12:58:20 PM »

On the News & Events page ( http://usa.yamaha.com/news_events/?page=2 ) is a link to some information
about the new PSR-E443 ( http://usa.yamaha.com/news_events/pianos_keyboard/yamaha_psr-e443_portable_keyboard/ )
with a picture ( http://usa.yamaha.com/news_events/pianos_keyboard/yamaha_psr-e443_portable_keyboard/images/Yamaha-PSR-E443-EN.jpg ), unfortunately just low resolution.

The link to the PSR-E443 product page still points to the PSR-E433 ( http://usa.yamaha.com/products/musical-instruments/keyboards/digitalkeyboards/portable_keyboards/psr-e433/?mode=model ),
but that might change in the next few hours (or days).
The correct link might be ( http://usa.yamaha.com/products/musical-instruments/keyboards/digitalkeyboards/portable_keyboards/psr-e443/?mode=model ), but does not yet work.

The PSR-E443 is still missing in the manuals and drivers download section.

Update:

The press kit ( 230 MB zipped: https://hub.yamaha.com/namm2014/40834-yamaha-namm-2014-press-kit-online ) contains a high resolution picture.
I will try to upload it as attachment ...
Argh, doesnt work - the pic is 2.7 MB, max attachment size is 7 MB - maybe my upload speed is too slow.
Maybe someone else has more luck ...

Here are two partial images of display and buttons - medium resolution, but still readable ..

Thanks for the information  Smiley

apparently the E443 will have the Aux in port and the melody suppressor function of his little brother the E343 as well as more voices.  Hope some of them will be Sweet!, Cool!, Dynamic! or Live!

Am not sure I understand the part about the cross-faders, though???

Looking forward too see some videos  Cool

Following is my preliminary analysis, based on a comparison of the panels of the E443 and E433.

Voices

Overall, the E443 has 24 more voices than the E433. It's difficult to see where all the changes are, because Yamaha apparently moved several voices out of other categories and into a new category called "World," but here's a quick rundown of the differences by category. The numbers indicate the number of voices in each category on the E443, then on the E433, followed by the difference:

Bass - 17 / 15 /  2
Strings - 19 / 35 / -16 (presumably moved into "World")
Saxophone - 15 / 18 / -3 (presumably moved into "World")
Trumpet - 9 / 8 /  1
Brass - 15 / 13 /  2
Synth Lead - 28 / 24 /  4
Synth Pad - 18 / 17 /  1
World - 37 / 0 /  37 (new category)
Drum Kits - 24 / 23 /  1
XGlite - 457 / 462 / -5 (possibly moved into "World" or replaced by Panel voices)

Styles

Overall, the E443 has 14 more styles than the E433. The differences appear to be in the following categories:

8 Beat - 1 more style
Dance - 4 more styles
Latin - 6 more styles
Traditional & World - 3 more styles (and this E433 category has been split into separate "World" and "Traditional" categories on the E443)

Patterns

The E443 has at least 9 more patterns than the E433. The panel of the E433 lists each pattern separately, but the E443 lists them as categories, so it's difficult to tell whether the E443 has 19 patterns or more than 19 (I'm willing to bet it's got at least 20 patterns, since 20 is a "nicer, rounder" number than 19).

Songs

Here the E443 has been "gutted"-- whereas the E433 has 100 built-in songs, the E443 has only 30. Personally, I'm not sorry to see this change, as I'd rather have new features and lose 70 built-in songs, especially since the songs that were "taken away" can probably still be played for free via MIDI files (unless they aren't available for free due to copyright or licensing issues).

Live Control

The Filter, Effect, EG, and Style Filter functions remain the same, but the "Sound Image" functions have been replaced with "Aux In" and "Special Effect." "Sound Image: Ultra-Wide Stereo" has been kept as "Special Effect: Ultra-Wide Stereo," but is now controlled by knob A rather than knob B. However, "Sound Image: Pan" is gone, replaced with "Special Effect: Retrigger Rate." (Hmm, I wonder what that is?) On the other hand, there's now an "Aux In: Suppressor Pan" function, as well as an "Aux In: Balance" function.

A couple of dealers now have the PSR-E443 available for pre-order on their sites, at the same price as the PSR-E433-- about $250. The Musician's Friend site has a description and specs, but they're for the E433. Both sites also have photos of the keyboard-- the same as the one in the press kit, plus a "side angle view" (both B&H and Musician's Friend) and a back view (Musician's Friend only). The back view is kind of small, but you can (just) make out the AUX-IN port located above and between the SUSTAIN and PHONES/OUTPUT ports.

Hi --

The following info was posted on www.yamahaforums.co.uk. At least one retailer has posted "755 voices," too. Wish we could see the details and hear a demo!

-- pj

http://www.yamahaforums.co.uk/index.php/78-news/latest-news/149-namm-2014-yamaha-announce-new-psr-e443-arranger-keyboard

Main features:
61 touch sensitive keys
XG Lite & GM compatibility
Ultra-Wide Stereo DSP
Reverb, Chorus and Master EQ
Aux line input
Pitch bend wheel
USB TO HOST (MIDI)
USB TO DEVICE (Storage)
Real time control knobs
DJ Pattern mode
Melody Suppressor with pan control
Aux in crossfade

Changes from PSRE433:
Aux line input
Aux in crossfade
Melody Suppressor with pan control
More Voices (755 vs. 733)
More Styles (200 vs. 186)
More DJ Patterns (20 vs. 10)

The Pan Control on the melody suppressor allows the player to zero in the part they want to suppress. For example, back ground vocals are often slightly panned, so you could zero in on that. The Yamaha PSR-E443 keyboard will ship mid April 2014.

One additional front panel change. The tempo buttons have been changed to "Tempo/tap," "Transpose," and "Melody Suppressor."

Having direct access to transpose is a _great_ relief. I use a PSR at rehearsals and it drives me nuts to have transpose buried in the function menu.

Take care -- pj

More DJ Patterns (20 vs. 10)

755 Voices is correct, you can see it on the panel-- but they got the E433's Voice count wrong, it should be 733 rather than 731. Since there are 24 more Voices overall, and the E443 has 5 fewer XG voices than the E433, that means there are 28 new panel Voices (24 plus 5, minus 1 for the extra Drum Kit). Panel Voices are higher-quality than XG/GM voices, so that's a goof thing!

I'm curious to see what the User file format looks like, since Yamaha would have had to change it to accommodate the 14 new Styles and the 10 new Patterns.

Has anyone a clue about when Yamaha might release the user guide for the E443? This would provide us with a better insight about what the new board is capable of.

Hi,

This link takes you to the 433 not 443.    I checked and there are still no docs available for the E443.
