hi does anyone know if the tyros 3 has an auto shutdown ,i sometimes leave my KB for hours while i deal with something else going on in the house,
it would be nice if the damm KB would auto shutdown after say 30 mins so as to save on wear and tear so to speak, plus electric,i know its not a pc,but it is clearly based on a laptop
I know that this would not suit everyone but it would me ,because i dont play live so a standby mode would be very handy indeed
thanks

Hi
I don' t think that the T3 has a function like this. You can install an electrical clock between the T3 power input and the house installation ajusted to 30 minutes. But it will break in mitle of a song! Perhaps an electrician out there has a better proposal.

Kind regards

Hi darkcloud,

I'm not aware of any auto shutdown function, but you can set the hard disk drive to go into 'Sleep Mode', which stops it spinning if it hasn't been used for a specified time.

You set this up by pressing Function > Utility > tab to Media.  Use button pairs 1 or 2 to set the time.  ( page 123 of the Reference Manual)

I have done this on my T4 and it works OK. If you need to access the disk for any reason whilst it is sleeping, it starts up in a couple of seconds. This slight delay is fine in the home but I suspect that you wouldn't want it during a gig.

I thought that apart from when audio recording, I could avoid 'waking' the disk up by putting all non preset styles, registrations, etc. on a USB stick.
The problem is that if you go into a file selection screen to select one of them, if it opens on the preset or user pages, you have to tab past the HDD to get to the USB drive, and this wakes the HDD up!  At least if you leave the keyboard switched on unattended for a while, the disk isn't spinning away unnecessarily.

I would be interested in hearing any opinions on whether it is better for the drive to be spinning continually rather than keep shutting down and starting up?

Regards

Ian

Everyone will have their own preferences regarding leaving on or shutting off, but I
would turn my T3, (and the T2 and T1 before it), on first thin in the morning and
off just before going to bed - 16 hours per day average.

To be sure, it was not being played all that time and the hard drive would go to sleep
after a period of time - the keyboards do not consume a lot of power (60 watts for
Tyros and half that for the PSR's).

Jørgen has mentioned the  most likely solution and the problem of shutting down while playing.  Shocked
My MOX has the auto shut down feature and I have disabled it because you stand the chance
of loosing music work in process if you have not saved it and you leave the keyboard for a bit.

hi again,my T3 sits sometimes for 8 to 10 hours a day doing nothing to be honest but i still don't bother to switch it of ,an auto switch between the t3 and the plug is not a bad idea and will look in to it,maybe yamaha will consider putting it in for those who at home do this sort of thing ,after all its an easy thing to add .
i have the harddrive shutdown all the time anyway because i don't use the harddrive recorder YET lol,the T3 has a great midi record function making for very small file sizes, because i play so badly i have not been able to get a singer involved so no need for the harddrive just yet,in fact I'm thinking i might have been better of getting a S 910 ,its a bit cheaper and with the money i would have saved i could have hired a singer LOL again.
thanks for all your replies                             ...What a great forum...                ...i have been made unemployed recently and have not been able to afford the latest styles disc ,but as soon as i get another job will be getting it ordered ...i have high hopes
