Title: Song file rejected
Post by: Toril S on September 08, 2017, 01:39:24 PM
Hello :) I tried to post a song on the section Songs played by forum menbers, but got an error message. The song is mp3, and not very long. Maybe I used to long a file name? There were also some metadata in there. Never done this before. How to, please?

All MP3 files are too big to post to this site.

The standard process is to upload to a file sharing service like box.net then post the link here.

There is a file size restriction of 7 MB's per attachment, so if your MP3 file exceeded that limit, as Fred has stated, you will need to upload your file to an online storage account, and subsequently post the link to the file in your topic.  :)

Here's some additional information for you, Toril, that I should have said earlier.  Very few of my MP3 files exceed the 7 MB limit, so the majority of my files could be uploaded to the forum without the need to store them in an online storage account.  If your file was less than 7 MB's, then some other error is being generated.

Hello! The song was 3476 KB. Is this a big MP3 file? I just told the program to make an MP3 file of the song, and trusted it to be OK :) This is the first time I do this, and I thought it was fun to post the song on the site as a test.

What was the specific error message, Toril?  Was the error generated due to a file size restriction or did you receive a duplicate file name error?  If you're trying to post a song by the same name that already exists on the server, your file will be rejected because of a duplicate file name.  If that's the case, just append something like (2) to the end of the song name prior to the file extension.  :)

i.e. It's Now Or Never (2).MP3

If you receive another duplicate file name error, you may need to use (3) or some other number until the error is no longer generated and your file is uploaded.  I've had to do this before by using a higher number than (2).  I hope this makes sense to you, Toril.  :)

Yes, it does. Do not remember the exact error message, Something about it taking too long for the file to upload. I added some metadata, perhaps that did  it. Will try again without adding these data. I have no account in any filesharing service yet :)

Your 3.5 MB file size is very small, so that rules out the file size being a problem.  Adding metadata to your file would not affect the file size much at all.

Try to upload your file again in the next few minutes, Toril, and I'll look at the error that is generated in the Error Log.  I should be able to tell you what you need to do to remedy the situation.  :)
