How to connect Genos to computer using WiFi
« on: December 04, 2017, 01:39:22 AM »
l have just taken delivery of my Genos  ;D  l'm not very good with all the technical side, and would like to be able to connect the Genos to my computer. l managed to connect the Genos to my Wi Fi by finding my broadband network and inputting the password. But after that l'm lost and l can't find how to do it in the instruction manual as it seems to be more about connecting an I-pad etc. l ended up updating the firmware using a usb drive. But l'd like to be able to know how to use the WiFi side in the future.

l have a desktop PC which is Windows 10 and have both WiFi and Bluetooth although l've never used either so far as the comp is hard wired to the router. l'd really appreciate it if someone could please tell me in simple terms how to connect the Genos to the WiFi.

You use Wi Fi for transferring expansion voices from the Yamaha Expansion Manage on your computer to the keyboard.

Hi Eileen,

Through WiFi you can connect Genos to your computer with YEM 2.5.0 (Yamaha Expansion Manager) program on your computer.

YEM 2.5.0 for Windows:
https://usa.yamaha.com/support/updates/yem_win.html

YEM 2.5.0 for Mac:
https://usa.yamaha.com/support/updates/yem_mac.html

YEM 2.5.0 installation guide:
https://usa.yamaha.com/files/download/other_assets/6/1136736/yamaha_expansion_manager_en_ig_v250_g0.pdf

YEM 2.5.0 owner's manual:
https://usa.yamaha.com/files/download/other_assets/3/1136733/yamaha_expansion_manager_en_om_v250_h0.pdf

If you want to connect Genos directly to your computer for file copying other than expansion pack installation, you have to use a USB cable between the Genos and your computer (while pressing the "Playlist" button, power on Genos so Genos is in storage mode).  Please refer to p.151 of Genos Reference Manual:
https://usa.yamaha.com/files/download/other_assets/7/1131007/genos_en_rm_b0.pdf

Thanks,
Paul

The Yem program will find the keyboard through WiFi.

But I don’t know of any other way to transfer files with WiFi. The power on + playlist method requires a usb cable connection.

Hi Paul and Fred,

Many thanks for your help, finally got the WiFi sorted and managed to transfer all my Expansion packs using it.

It turned out there was something strange going on with the YEM program. l'd downloaded the new 2.5 version and it showed up in my Windows 10 programs as being 2.5, but after a lot of problems where l couldn't even import the instrument info. using a usb l finally discovered that for some reason the program hadn't installed 2.5 and was still running 2.41. Had to delete the 2.5 download and the 2.41 version and start from scratch. Finally got it all sorted.

Kind regards,

Russ
