What yr. is the Yamaha 970?
« on: November 11, 2017, 03:22:33 PM »
Hi Everyone,
I can't afford a Genos at this time, so am wonder what yr the 970 model first came out!  I now have a PSR 910 & am wondering if there is enough change to merit stepping up to the 970?  There are no dealers in the Phoenix, Az. area that carry anything (except guitars.)

Thanks for your thoughts,
Gloria

Hi Gloria it came out the year before last and is still very popular. One advantage it has over the 910 is that you can use sample packs from Yamaha which have new voices and styles on them.

Hello Gloria! I bought an S970 some weeks ago, and is very, very satisfied with it! It has vocal harmony and audio player as well. I never considered buying the Genos.

Hi Gloria,

I upgrade from an S910 to the S970... I'm so glad I did.  It sounds so much better, and the expansion packs are well worth the investment. The S970 has I believe a very close sound to the Tyros 4... and most of the T4 Voices.  So you can download the T4 styles from the main site and play them on your new S970!

It depends what you are going to do with it.

I have a PSR 3000, 910, 950, 970 in my studio at the moment (keyboard lessons),
there are some advantages from purchasing the latest but I would say that the sound is much sweeter on the 910 so take your USB stick and your headphones with you and give it a good test run.

But the sound can be adjusted to your liking. The S970 is almost double the price of the S770, so you have to decide if the extra features are so important that you are willing to take the extra cost. Good luck with choosing☺

The S970 is an excellent keyboard for the $$$.  Gotta say I would have liked a better keybed.

Hello Gloria,
I expect Yamaha will launch a mini version of the Genos to replace the PSR-S970. I don't think it will be until mid to late 2018 though.

I suspect October 2018, but this would only be if Yamaha follows it's habits of the past decade. Just really can't tell till it happens.

Good luck,
