PSR 3000 firmware
« on: August 12, 2016, 09:45:06 AM »
Andrew Hello,
Thank you for your prompt reply which was much appreciated.

I just bought the keyboard and found that there was a broken jack lodged on the earphone socket, but I finally managed to remove it and it now works OK !
Hello.
I would appreciate some advice. I just bought a PSR 3000.
The operating system is version 1.54 and I would like to upgrade it to the latest 1.8.

I believe that this has to be done with a SmartMedia Card but I have no way writing to the SM card, and I have read on the internet that upgrading from 1.54 directly to  1.8 can be problematic.
I am concerned that I could corrupt the operating system if I try and it goes wrong !!!
Any suggestions or advice would be appreciated.
Is it possible to write the upgrade files to a USB stick and then transfer them to the SM card using the keyboard?

Thank you for your attention.

Kind regards,
John

Imho the USB Update didnīt work ...
first you have to install the 1.55 via Smart Media Card ...

So search for "old camera user with smart media card"  and a card reader for smart media.

Put the Files on the smart media card via PC
Put the card in the PSR Keyboard

Turn on the instrument while pressing [START/STOP] button, located in the style control section.

greetings frank .. done this hundred? years ago :-)

PS: After that the future Updates are possible via USB Stick!

Thanks for your reply which was much appreciated.

I asked a local Yamaha repair centre if they would upgrade my PSR 3000 firmware for me and they referred me to the Yamaha UK service line. I think that if my attempts to update the firmware fail, no one in the UK would be able to reload the firmware!!! The repairer clearly does not  want to do it so I think I will live with it as it is. I ordered a SM card reader and I have 2 SM cards so I will live with that memory capacity.

I only seem to be able to get 1.4Mb capacity on a USB stick no mater how I format it. Is that correct or am I doing something wrong ?

Many thanks.
John

I just updated a 3000 from a customer from 1.54 to 1.8. done in 3 Minutes ..

With the Smart Media it is easy ...
If you donīt find a User having a Smart Media send me a Email(personal mail here in the forum), I give you one to Update (you had to RETURN the media to me afterwards .. they are rare now :-)

But where can I find the firmware to update my PSR3000?  All I see are deadends!

You're welcome, Geoff.  I agree with you wholeheartedly.  This is a great forum.  We're all priviledged to be a part of what Joe Waters has spent years creating and maintaining.  :)
