Make Psr-3000/1500's Piano like Motif
« on: August 22, 2010, 02:35:44 AM »
Piano voice on psr 1500 and psr 3000(except .liv) sounds so weak. So me and my friends, after tweaking them for a considerable amount of time, came up with these voices.
They sound very good (hmm, almost Motif) compared to the default piano voice. try them, you wont be lifting you fingers from playing. ;)
-kam

Note: these are highly researched and in-depth implementation of the instrument's capability. Try also to strike harder, the sound fulfills with altered / changed sensation which is found on wood pianos.

Recommendation: Use headphones, Use Parametric Eq. Settings posted earlier, Sustain pedal. (Sounds good without these even)

Editing Method Used: Yamaha's CS2x was mainly used to edit the extra parameters connected thru MIDI to the instrument.

Thanks Kamran, The voices are beautiful, but I can't seem to turn off the sustain. I must be doing something wrong, way too much sustain. Thanks, Ron

Kam,

These pianos do sound pretty good, but you have set the key release setting so high that the result is as if the sustain is held on continuously.

Just adjust the EG Release in Voice Set to a lower value because the keys are bever releasing as now set and i think 127 reverb is too much.

The voices do sound good when the release is adjusted.  8)

Hi Ron and Bill G,

These voices 'does' contain a lot of sustain, but this element was also present in the other pro synths we modeled, i,e Motif. You can turn sustain it off from 'voice effect' area. (press 'voice effect' button).
If this doesn't help, goto 'voice edit' and reduce 'Release'  from Envelope Generator page.(Sound Creator=>Sound).

Reverb is almost full on 'Piano-Movies-Background' patch to give it an effect as if the piano is being played at a far distant. (Can always be reduced from 'sound effect' area)

Try to  layer the piano voice with 'OrchStrings' patch on R2 voice, makes it more beautiful.

Thanks you all for admiring the patches!

Make sure to play with different settings at the 'voice effect' page.
Press 'Voice effect' button and switch b/w on and off. Harmony Echo On/Off, Sustain On/Off, DSP On/Off (produces considerable change).
Also remember that Harmony Echo type is set to Echo. Function=>Harmony/Echo=>Echo.
thanks.

::)  ::)  You Can Simply Adjust Sustain In These Voices  By Using The Modulation Wheel!!!  instead of going to editing mode! Try it!

Sorry Kam, but the modulation wheel is only affecting the amplitude and filter on my T3.
And, it is the same with sustain pedal.
Unlike the Motif, the Mod wheel is not assignable on the arranger keyboards.

Adjusting the release time is the only cure - no need for that long release - certainly not on accustic piano's.  ;) 8)

It is fun trying different things with these voices though - thanks for submitting them.  :)

Hi Bill G and other fellows,

I have reworked on the piano voices which had too much sustain in it. So here are the fixed version.
Also i have included a piano voice which i called 'GrandPnoForMixing' which also has a beautiful texture, slight sharp yet inspiring specially to be used in the mixes.

Note:
Synthesizing Technique used: Yamaha CS2x Control Synthesizer via midi (which opens extra XG commands to manipulate the voice)
Try to  layer the piano voice with 'OrchStrings' patch on R2 voice(adj. vol. accordingly), makes it more beautiful.

thanks,
-kam

Okay, it's been a long time and several hard drives since then, but I think the linked files may be what you are looking for.

Thanks  lot guys. I have downloaded the piano hoping to test it after work today. Im in Swaziland so our times differ somewhere somehow.

I normally use an un-tweaked concert grand, grand piano and pop grand with harmony eco on and dsp on and use the modulation wheel to get what I want and
its working for my S950. I also go to mixing console to adjust the brightness, harmonic and octave if I want a heavy sound. I play my pianos with galaxy pad adjusted using the modulation wheel to sound like a deep heart touching string and those galaxy pad small bell  sounds

I m just curious when I hear motif like sounding piano becos Motif engine is a wahh.

I don't know much about the PSR3000.  It's a User Voice.  It may load but it won't sound the same as on the S970 because the Grand Piano samples are different and the DSP effects or different.

Hi Sammy,

This Topic is over 6 years old.  More than likely the upload contained a copyright file and may have still been for sale on the Yamaha website.  I'm only speculating.
