January 2011 Release
CD-ROM CONTENTS
| CD-ROM ($30) | Download Only ($20) |
Continuing the format of the 2010 CD-ROM, this CD contains a complete web-site that you can access and explore via your browser on your home PC. It includes much of the educational and informational material available on the main PSR Tutorial web site at the end of 2010. All of this for less than half the price of a single one-hour music "lesson" ($30).
There are five major sections on the included web site. Each is described below:
Lessons
Yes! All of the lessons from the PSR Tutorial are include on this CD-ROM. All together, there are 387 web pages included in the lessons section. Subsections include "Start Here", "Demos", "Playing", "Tuning", "Quick Steps", and "FAQs". Now you can explore then at your leisure right on your own computer. However, it was not possible to include the videos referenced in the "Demo" section. The links are still there, but they will require an internet connection to access and view the many YouTube videos.
Songs
While the 2010 CD-ROM had all of the PSR Performer (5,000) midi files available at that time, this new CD includes only the midi files that were added in 2010. Still, that's 460 songs. These can be accessed via an alphabetical index to all the songs. They can also be used by simply copying them all to a USB drive and taking them to your keyboard. This section also includes the complete Yamaha XG midi library, and the Top Songs, Fake Books, and Fake Book Index components from the PSR Tutorial Music section.
Styles
The 2011 CD-ROM includes all of the style files that were added to the PSR Tutorial site in 2010. This includes over 14,000 styles, not an insignificant number. So, to fit everything on the CD, all of the styles are in zip files that will have to be copied to your PC and unzipped to use. Note that in an unzipped format, there are enough styles included to just about fill up a single CD. Besides the style files, this section also includes the material found in the "Other Files" section of Styles on the main site -- Music Finder databases (including all the "corrected" versions for the various Yamaha keyboards), over 3,000 multi pad files, hundreds of registration files, and 5,000 voice files, many of which are not even available on the main site.
Learning Center
Here you will find all the Articles, Projects, and Pro Clinic discussions available on the main site as of January 1, 2011. Plenty of reading material here! You will also find the complete "Secret of Chords and Chord Progressions" in the Learning Center as well as all of the manuals for the latest six Yamaha arranger keyboards (Tyros4, Tyros3, Tyros2, and PSR-S910, PSR-S900, and PSR-3000).
Utilities
The final section mirrors the Utilities section of the main site. All the various utility descriptions are there and the actual utility files from Michael Bedesem are included on the CD-ROM. These can be copied to your PC and installed there.
There is an incredible amount of information on this CD-ROM as well as thousands of useful files. Both brand new, and experienced users, will find it an excellent addition to the resource archives. Note that a "Help" page created for the 2010 CD is largely applicable to the 2011 CD and may useful to you in understanding how these CD-ROMs are used.
Earlier CD-ROM
Note that the complete history of PSR Performer midi files (5,000 files, 280 MB) is available on the 2010 CD-ROM (see below). In addition, most of the style files included on that CD (2,000 styles, 105 MB) are not available on the 2011 version. (See the order page for a special price if you are interested in both CDs.) The complete set of PSR Performer midi songs is also available on the 2009 Songs DVD.
2010 CD-ROM CONTENTS

(March
2010) The PSR Tutorial CD-ROM has been completely updated and revised
for 2010. This PSR Tutorial CD-ROM ($20) is available
to all Supporting
Members of
the PSR Tutorial web site and forum. The new, updated CD-ROM, includes
all of the material from the "Music" and the "Utilities" sections
of this web site plus 5,000 midi files from the PSR Performers and 2,100
style files from the "Styles" section. A brief description
of the contents is provided below.
In the 2010 version of the PSR Tutorial CD-ROM, all of the material can be accessed via your web browser. The CD has, in effect, a miniature web site with four main sections: Songs, Styles, Learning Center, and Utilities. For a more detailed explanation of how to access the files on this CD and for additional insight into the contents, see the CD2010 Help Page.
Songs
You will find an alphabetical index to all the PSR Performer songs just like the MIDI index in the web site's Songs section. In addition, all of the top song lists are includes here as well as all the fake book listings and the full 44,000 record fake book songs index.
Styles
A large style collections are available, of course, on the two Styles CDs. However, to get a new user started, this CD-ROM does include a couple thousand styles. The style conversions from Onacimus Sayaham have been noted for their exceptional excellence. He has tuned many of the original Yamaha preset styles from earlier (and later) keyboards for use on the PSR-3000. These are consolidated in his "Standard Styles Collection" and the "Mega Styles Collection". Each of these collections have almost 700 styles and both are included on the CD-ROM. For owners of the newest Yamaha keyboards, the original preset styles for the Tyros3 and the PSR-S910 are also included. Styles should be interchangeable for these two keyboards and will also play on the newest CVP509 keyboards.
Learning Center
I have labeled the third section the "Learning Center" since it includes primarily material that can be read and studied from your computer. It includes all the Articles from this site as well as all the Projects. All the "gigging" advice from the Pro Clinic is included as well as the complete "Secrets of Chords and Chord Progressions" course. Finally, I am including the manuals for all of the keyboards from the PSR-3000 onward.
Utilities
The last section reproduces the material found in our "Utilities" section. On the CD-ROM, however, all of the Bedesem utilities are included as well as the Yamaha and the Wierzba utility programs. The descriptions of the remaining utilities are provided as well as the links to the author's web sites so you can always go and download the most recent versions.
I had hoped to include some recent videos as well, but the above material, over 9,000 files taking up about 650MB of space has just bout filled the CD-ROM. I hope new users will find this material useful and, since it is all provided on the CD-ROM, they can take their time reviewing the articles and have all this reference material available whenever it is needed.
