What Is Producer?

Producer is a powerful tool for creating or editing Step Record files that include special chord and style control commands. When Played or Expanded on the keyboard, these files generate accompaniment parts.

With Producer you can:

  • Create a backing midi song by entering chords on a spreadsheet screen using the mouse and on-screen menus; there is need for typing and resulting errors. Layout markers facilitate organizing your song, and cut, copy and paste functions make it easy to move or duplicate musical sections (e.g. verse, chorus). Editing tools are provided for transposing, modifying chord complexity (e.g. jazzing up-down), and creating pedal points.
  • Edit the chords in a Quick Record midi on the PC and then rebuild the song, using the same or a different style, without having to repeat your performance. It is easy to correct or add chords, add or move fills, change variations, modify tempo, and mute, solo or adjust the volume of style parts.
  • Make a PSR Step Record midi on the PC from any midi or karaoke song by using the chords in the song to trigger a PSR accompaniment. Use the melody tracks, if desired, for the right hand parts or add your own. Karaoke lyrics are automatically converted for use by the PSR’s display.
  • Use your sequencer to edit song containing both notes and chord data.
  • Build a song using several styles, or tempos.

How it works

The PSR/Tyros creates the accompaniment section of a midi song by using data entered on Producer’s spreadsheet to trigger the accompaniment, just as if you were playing live in Quick or MultiRecord.

You create/edit the song by entering chords, style sections, tempo, lyrics and other data with a mouse, by opening an existing Quick Record midi, or by analyzing an existing midi song. Existing melody tracks play along with the accompaniment and may be entered/ edited in conjunction with your favorite sequencer.

Once created, a Producer song may be played from the PC and recorded on the PSR, or you can expand the Producer file in Song Creator. Both methods create a PSR Quick Record midi. Any events in midi channels 9-16 are replaced; events in the channel 1-8 melody tracks are preserved.

Features

  • Producer provides full support for Tyros 1/2/3, PSR-3000, PSR-S900, and PSR-1500 step record files. It can be used with other instruments with some restrictions.
  • Create the spreadsheet manually, or by opening a standard midi file, XF midi, karaoke midi, BIAB midi, PSR Quick or Multi Record midi, PSR Step Record Midi or Expanded PSR Step Record midi. If the file contains chord, lyric, karaoke, tempo or step record events, these will display automatically. If the midi is lacking these events, you can add them to the file by using facilities provided by Producer or the program PSRUTI.
  • Producer operates in cooperation with your sequencer to edit or create melody tracks in coordination with the accompaniment. Midi channels 1 to 8 are available for melody and channels 9-16 are used by the Tyros/PSR for the accompaniment. Chord data is displayed as song markers (that show in the track header) and as sysex events. Producer has been tested with Sonar and XGWorks.
  • Karaoke lyrics are automatically converted to the midi format preferred by the PSR/CVPs/Tyros and you can enter/edit lyrics directly on the spreadsheet.
  • Use the Mixing Console to adjust the volume of style parts as the song is playing or use Producer's spreadsheet controls to set levels for files that are Expanded in Song Creator. Fade In/Out is also supported for Expanded files.
  • Eighth note, quarter note, and measure resolutions are supported in 4/4 and 3/4 time.
  • Cut & paste, along with grid move and zoom functions, facilitate editing.
  • Layout markers and Session Notes are provided to support organization and documentation.
  • Chord processing functions include Transpose, add Pedal Point, and Modify complexity (jazz up-down select chords).
  • Provision is included for setting Vocal Harmony On-Off commands.
  • Built-in MusicFinder database facilitates style selection.
  • Create songs employing multiple styles or multiple tempos.
  • On-screen Quick Start Guide and full manual in pdf format.
  • XP ready using 1024 X 768 and better screen resolution.
