Tyros 1 and Tyros2/Tyros3/Tyros 4 have limits to the number of files per folder, 250 and 500 respectively. When the limit is reached, an error is generated and further access is restricted, making it difficult to correct the problem using the file management tools on the instrument. HDCheck is a utility designed to assist in managing Tyros folders from the PC.
It runs on the PC and can scan folders on the computer, folders on USB storage media connected to the PC or a Tyros hard disk connected via the MusicFinder-button-initiated Storage Mode.
Instructions
After starting the program, all you do is select the drive or any folder structure on the Tyros or the PC (for example a USB storage device currently connected to the PC). As soon as you have made your selection, the program will begin scanning and report the file count for each of the sub folders. Click on the File Count column header and it will sort the list in descending order. You can then address any issues by clicking on the Windows Explorer or use the Split function provided by the program to divide a selected folder into two parts.
Alternatively, you can print out the list and take it to your instrument for reorganization, a reminder of where you are getting close to the limit, or an overview of the organizational structure.
